red eyes no bodies middle of the night only when light hits them and there are more then one

my step dad had a dream a few years ago about going up into our attic and seeing red eyes but no body. he said the thing scared him though and in his dream it bolted towards him when he seen it...he woke up before the thing reached him, but when he woke up he had scratches all over his arms and chest. idk what it could be though? maybe a spirit or something?
