Electronics Unplugged but working

i have had a couple of odd electronics - related experiences. I am wondering if anybody has had similar experiences, or what could logically explain this:
one time i was watching tv, only to eventually discover it was unplugged the entire time?!
a second time, i was up very early getting ready for work, a little groggy i suppose. I was blow drying my hair, and thought the cord seemed too long. Well, i apparently did not plug it in upon starting to dry my hair. But it worked!
Third time, more recently, my car battery was disconnected, in order to fix something. However my lights and radio still turned on. This could be residual energy im assuming, but I was on the phone with my mechanic at the time, and he was like 'ya no, nothing should be on if you unscrewed the battery'. He did not believe me.
So, what is up with that?
